The Love and Stress Compound
The Love and Stress Compound is a chamber-pop band from Portland, OR, featuring the compositions of vocalist/guitarist Dusty York. Son of late Portland saxophone great, Michael York, Dusty spent many years as a prominent saxophonist himself while running the jazz label, Diatic Records. In 2009 he abruptly left the saxophone and jazz to pursue guitar and vocals in the pop/rock realm, stating that his strengths as a composer and performer were better suited to another genre.
York’s first pop/rock venture was Sad Little Men, which morphed into two separate projects—the lively Tiburona and the mellower The Love and Stress Compound. Both groups feature Wendy Behrend on keyboards/backup vocals and have very distinct sounds. The Love and Stress Compound is heavily influenced by film and soundtracks, with some strands of acoustic pop mixed in. The trio plays it’s whole set segued together and will soon be incorporating visual elements to the act as well. In late Spring the trio will become a quartet with the addition of Jennifer Kersgaard on cello.
In Spring 2014 they released their debut EP “Sore Eyes” and they continue to tour regularly.
